Ellen was undergoing a D&C procedure in 1975 following a miscarriage when she had an out-of-body experience. She realized she was just an eye or vision at the top of the surgery room lights. Looking down, she saw herself on the operating table with the doctor pounding on her chest trying to revive her. She felt like the smallest entity imaginable, like a tiny water drop with thinking abilities, recognizing herself as a spirit. The experience was bright with vivid surroundings. She experienced incredible peace and joy, feeling united with the world. When she realized she must be dying, the next thing she knew they were waking her from anesthesia. She later had conscious awareness during two cesarean sections where she could feel the procedures and heard staff saying they were losing her.
