Aad G underwent open heart surgery on September 23, 2002, to replace a malfunctioning heart valve with a metallic valve. During the procedure while anesthetized and possibly on heart-lung machine, he found himself standing on a white gravel driveway lined with tall trees that formed a tunnel-like canopy. About fifty meters ahead was an open gate with fantastic light beyond it, though the source wasn't visible.

In front of the gate stood his Belgian Shepherd dog Farouche, who had died of a heart attack on September 10, 2002, just thirteen days earlier. The dog wagged and jumped back and forth, clearly wanting him to come through the gate. Despite feeling a strong urge to follow, Aad found himself unable to move, nailed to the ground. As the distance between them slowly increased, Farouche turned and walked proudly through the gate into the light without looking back.

After the experience, Aad became more emotional, cries easily, and is described by colleagues as more at ease and less rebellious. He later discovered the Rainbow Bridge story online, which corresponded remarkably with his experience.

--- Biblical Summary ---
Biblical elements: The experience includes a gateway/portal to the afterlife, divine light, and a boundary that couldn't be crossed, suggesting divine sovereignty over life and death. The tunnel-like path and beautiful setting align with some positive near-death accounts.

Unbiblical elements: Meeting a deceased pet as the primary guide or greeter lacks biblical precedent, as Scripture doesn't definitively address animal afterlife. However, this doesn't directly contradict Scripture and may reflect God's comfort through familiar love.
