Dorothy experienced two NDEs: first at age six in 1960 from severe hemorrhaging with blood loss, and again at age 23 in 1976 during a five-day coma. Both times her parents were told she would not survive. In both experiences, she found herself in a tunnel of light made of many colors when looking up, with white light beyond description around her. A male figure at the tunnel's end, radiating overwhelming love, knowledge, and belonging, told her by name that she had to go back and couldn't come now. The voice seemed to come from both within and without. During the second experience, she begged to stay but was again turned back. She saw herself on the bed with medical staff (one nurse crying) before returning with deep sadness and acceptance. After these experiences, she developed abilities to "know" things, experience visions, and had a profound spiritual encounter where a voice prevented her from suicide by warning she would have to relive her life. She explored various world religions seeking understanding of her experiences.
