On February 10, 1986, Donald was violently attacked with a rock to his face. Immediately after the assault, he felt himself rising from a horizontal position to upright, floating above his body. Though in complete darkness, he maintained awareness of his body down to his waist and spatial orientation. He experienced utter peace, blissful non-concern, and complete awareness of what was happening. When he thought of his soon-to-be wife waiting for him at home and wondered what she would do, he was instantly forced back into his body so hard that his body bounced off the concrete.
