During a heart attack, Desmond was being treated by paramedics who gave him medication and oxygen. As they prepared to transport him to Grenoble or Annecy for emergency coronary angiography, he was transferred to a shell mattress. Unable to feel his limbs and having difficulty articulating, everything suddenly changed. He found himself feeling intensely well, bathed in soft light with familiar and extremely caring presences leaning on him.
