During hysterectomy surgery in 1983, Dee experienced clinical death due to complications from asthma or allergies with anesthesia. Upon waking, she immediately told her mother about her vivid experience of floating and being drawn toward a bridge or walkway. Approaching the middle, she saw a beautiful park-like setting with people standing and talking in very bright but non-blinding light. The closer she got, the more wonderful she felt - overwhelmed with love, kindness, and comfort like going into the most loving home. Just as she was about to reach the grass, two nuns in black and white habits approached (without touching her) and told her she had to go back, that they weren't ready for her yet. Despite her protests, they insisted she return "for a little while." Her mother then revealed that the doctor had come out to report Dee was clinically dead but they were still working on her. After returning, Dee was blind for three days and severely swollen from the medical intervention.
