At age three, Deborah and her sister climbed into a cabinet and consumed an entire bottle of St. Joseph aspirins, splitting them between themselves. Their mother found them and rushed them to the hospital. While doctors were able to pump one daughter's stomach, Deborah could not be saved this way and was declared dead by the doctor. During this time, she left her body and observed the scene from above, seeing doctors and nurses around her parents in the hall. She heard the doctor tell her parents that one daughter had been saved but the other had passed. While out of body, Jesus appeared and extended his hand to her. They walked together toward a bright light, communicating telepathically. Jesus told her she had a choice to come into the light or return. Despite wanting to go home to the light, she chose to stay with her sister, saying she still had things to do. When her parents came into the room and kissed her, the heart monitor began beeping again, shocking the doctor who couldn't believe she had returned.
