Christopher was a young child when he experienced a severe auto accident. While playing in the family station wagon pretending to drive, he shifted into neutral causing the car to roll backwards down a large hill. He was thrown from the car and then pinned underneath as it sank into mud. He vividly remembers the horror of being unable to breathe as his chest was crushed, remaining conscious during this terrifying experience.
After blacking out, he experienced flying with incredible joy and happiness. Loving presences accompanied him, with one particular being of bright white light he thought might be Jesus or a guardian angel. The being was to his side like a protector, made of light. He felt intensely happy, loved, and wanted in this place. He specifically remembers flying over houses and seeing the tops of roofs, an experience so vivid he later thought he might have the power to do it again. Everything was suffused with joy, rapture, and self-love he had never experienced before. He distinctly did not want to leave this loving place and was ready to die. He was told he was loved, that he was okay as he was, and everything would be okay. He was then jerked back to a room full of concerned people staring at him on a table, suddenly feeling all the pain of his injuries. The experience permanently changed him - he became fearless about death, developed intense empathy to the point of feeling others' emotions, had multiple precognitive experiences, and struggled to integrate his knowledge of God's constant presence with normal childhood. Christopher's veridical observation was seeing himself flying over rooftops during the time he was not breathing, an observation he found so real he spent years believing he might be able to physically fly again.
