Brice experienced massive systemic infection from a ruptured intestinal abscess during military surgery, leaving his body for 18 hours earth time. He observed the surgical team from above, then saw the hospital surrounded by winter cornfields. Moving into space, he encountered familiar beings who attempted communication, but he resisted, still feeling anger about medical malpractice. Despite assurances his body would be made serviceable, he didn't want to return. Taken deeper into light believing he was going home, he experienced a life review encompassing not just his recent life but his existence as a being prior to incarnation. He recalled himself as having the same character as the beings with him, remembering his pre-birth agreement to exit his body as occurred, purposefully to develop transcendent awareness upon return. He understood most of the vision would fade but gradually return to accomplish his earthly purpose. He saw lights clustered so densely toward center they merged into blinding singularity. The beings explained guidance would come in increasingly recognizable form and he would eventually become aware while in body. He learned bodies are like "stiff mittens" covering tiny portions of ourselves. Despite resistance, he was drawn back to Earth. Following the NDE, paranormal experiences developed over 2-3 years, initially frightening until he realized he wasn't losing his sanity and began studying similar accounts.
