During abdominal surgery in September 1995, Amie went too far under anesthesia and stopped breathing. She found herself in an area with tall, glowing beings whose faces she couldn't distinguish, all wearing white. She experienced tremendous joy more powerful than ever felt in life, with no pain. The light was golden and bright. She heard indescribable music that permeated the air, coming from everywhere and nowhere, unlike any earthly music. Despite being deaf in one ear normally, she had clear hearing from all directions. She felt a sense of knowing that all would be alright. Someone told her she had to go back. She woke to OR staff bagging her and yelling to breathe and come back. The searing pain upon return made her cry, upset to be back in her body.
