In June 1957, fifteen-year-old Anne was strangled and kidnapped after mailing a thank you note. She was left for dead in a cornfield with her throat cut. While dying, she had an out-of-body experience where she saw blue sky and bright light with a spiritual figure in flowing red robes commanding her sternly: "Anne - get up!" She wanted to sleep but the figure commanded her again. She somehow got up, stumbled through corn to a dirt road, turned right (not knowing why), found a farmhouse and collapsed. During surgery, her heart stopped several times and she required many pints of blood. The attacker was caught and sentenced to life without parole.
