During surgery in August 1983, Valerie told her doctor she was scared to die despite tremendous belief in Jesus. During the operation, she went through a tunnel with parts of her life passing by. She had closed her eyes tight until someone said "open your eyes." She found herself in a pure white space seeing rooms with spirits walking around. She began crying without tears and noticed her hands were translucent.
An angel appeared with radiant beauty and glow, comforting her and saying she was safe. When Valerie said she wasn't ready to die, the angel acknowledged this and pointed down where Valerie could see doctors performing CPR on "a little girl," not initially realizing it was herself. She watched her entire operation including CPR. When told "they are bringing her back," she felt pushed and thrown back into her painful body. After waking, her doctor confirmed they had lost her in the OR and asked if she saw anything. Valerie described watching the CPR and said angels are the most beautiful beings. The experience gave her knowledge that there's great life after death and purpose to give and love fully. She now can read spirits of deceased people, whether related or not, and can tell people about past or future events.
