Shawna was in a severe car accident that resulted in multiple organ failures, broken bones from ribs to toes, and required multiple surgeries. During surgery while in a medically induced coma, she experienced cardiac arrest. She observed the medical team scrambling and a nurse jumping on the table performing CPR, floating above them with no emotions. She then flew through darkness filled with dread, wondering if she was heading to hell. A bright foggy light appeared at the end of a tunnel-like space. Beyond the light, she found herself in her grandparents' backyard where her 3-year-old son (who was also in a coma at another hospital) was playing with bricks. She felt overwhelming euphoria and joy watching him. When he asked if she wanted to play and she took his hand, she was pulled back through the darkness to her body. Her son survived with traumatic brain injury. Both experienced seeing deceased people during recovery.
