Paeata experienced multiple NDEs over many years due to severe asthma attacks resulting in repeated clinical deaths. She reports 5-6 incidents involving flat-lining and 50-60 involving respiratory arrest, with seven cardiac arrests in three days during one severe episode. She passed through tunnels in all but one experience, encountered an "ultimate being" who instructed her and sent her back despite her deep grief about returning. She experienced different mystical realms including perfect peace, extraordinary sights and sounds, visions of the future (including foreseeing the Kiribati tsunami), encounters with deceased persons, and what the Romans called "the shades" (Hades) - described as a velvet nightfall, not hell. She gained understanding that we are all connected, that density of matter affects location across realms, and that multiple worlds affect each other beyond ordinary consciousness. The experiences brought special knowledge about cause and effect but also brought difficulty and terror about what she learned she must face.
