In April 2003, Linda was traveling through Nebraska when her appendix ruptured. During surgery preparation, she was given a muscle relaxant that stopped her heart. During surgery, when tubes were removed from her throat, she did not breathe. She was aware of these events and knew the medical team attempted resuscitation. A nurse had told her husband she had stopped breathing.
During this crisis, Linda felt and saw a bright light containing her daughter-in-law Angela, who had passed away two years earlier. Angela was waiting for her, seeming both in the light and part of the light itself. Linda felt wonderful happiness multiplied a thousand times over - utopian. She moved into the light, knowing she was leaving her husband and family behind but wanting to go. Angela was smiling and getting closer. Then Linda heard her name being called but didn't want to answer. Suddenly she was looking at a doctor, confused and unbelievably angry to still be alive. The doctors confirmed her heart had stopped. She spoke with a priest but couldn't fully explain her feelings - she just wanted to go back. Years later, she still hasn't shaken that feeling. She has a surreal sense most of the time and complete peace about death with no fear, knowing where she's going. She describes the light as soft, bright, all-encompassing, and for unknown reasons associates it with roses. In the light she felt peace, warmth, love, happiness, utopia, and contentment with no remorse about leaving family - feeling this is where she belonged, what all wait for.
