Lauren H suffered severe trauma in an accident on March 22, 1994, including head trauma, punctured lung, fractured neck and back, broken pelvis, and other fractures. With a core temperature of 91 degrees and in shock, she was found by EMS and considered dead on arrival, then resuscitated on site. During her unconscious state, she experienced an urgent need to let go and slipped into unconsciousness.
She saw a very bright but not blinding light and had the sensation of floating upward through darkness past formless shadows. As she approached the light, she reached a barrier where she couldn't go closer. Her deceased loved ones, including her grandfather and aunt Robin, were present, telling her to go back as it wasn't her time yet. She wanted to stay in this place of love, peace, and feeling of being home, but was told she had to make a decision. She heard the paramedics say "We lost her" and later "She's okay" when she returned. The experience felt like hours though it was brief. She was "sucked" backwards into life and awoke in the ambulance.
