On September 12, 1997, Cindy E, a nurse, was jogging near a guard gate and bus stop when she was struck by a cyclist and then violently attacked. The assailant put her in a chokehold and manually strangled her while sitting on her chest, causing her to lose consciousness. As a nurse, she knew manual strangulation was often fatal. She passed out from lack of oxygen but remained aware, seeing and hearing the attacker while knowing she was dying.
During her clinical death, she experienced profound altered consciousness. She saw her entire family appear before her except her beloved grandmother, and desperately tried to communicate that she was dying, asking her mother to tell her boss she wouldn't return to work.
