Benjamin was a soldier in Iraq when an IED detonated near his Humvee. He felt intense burning, heard his legs breaking, and had difficulty breathing before everything went dark. He floated above his body watching medics work on him, hearing them say "We're losing him!" After watching for minutes, darkness came like blindness, then he found himself in a bright sunny field wearing jeans and red plaid shirt. His father, who had died two years earlier from a heart attack, approached wearing his usual t-shirt, jeans and John Deere hat. They stood close enough to touch, staring at each other without words. His father smiled and pointed back where Benjamin came from. When Benjamin shook his head no, his father smiled again, pointed again, then hugged and kissed him on the cheek.
