Nick had heart bypass surgery on June 19, 2002, and was readmitted on June 23rd with complications. On Monday morning, he experienced severe chest pain that started in his neck and spread across his chest. Despite three nitroglycerin pills, he couldn't breathe, his fingernails turned blue, and the nurse urged him to stay focused on her and not close his eyes. The room then went white.
