An 11-year-old girl suffering from severe anxiety and depression took approximately 100 Imipramine pills in a suicide attempt. After lying to her mother about taking the pills, she accompanied her to a doctor's appointment but became increasingly ill during the short drive. At the doctor's office, she went to the bathroom where she began having convulsions and lost consciousness.
During her NDE, she experienced herself as very small, looking down at her body on the bathroom floor from above. She felt completely separated from the person below, experiencing a profound sense of eternal aloneness in complete darkness. She heard echoes of voices trying to revive her and someone praying over her. The experience was characterized by a dark tunnel or void rather than the typical light many report. She felt very sad for the person on the floor, not initially associating it with herself, and experienced an overwhelming sense of isolation that seemed never-ending. Her primary veridical observations included seeing herself from above on the bathroom floor and hearing the medical staff's attempts to revive her, including a nurse saying "We are losing her" and hearing BP readings being called out. She was aware of activities happening while unconscious, though specific details that could be independently verified were limited. She was revived in the ER where her stomach was pumped, then spent a week in the psychiatric ward.
