Eleven-year-old Sandra was playing in a house under construction when she fell through drywall into a three-story fireplace shaft. Her face hit a rafter at the first floor, snapping her nose at the base of her brain - doctors said there was no reason the bone didn't penetrate her brain. She hung onto a second-floor rafter while unconscious, folding in half with the back of her head touching her feet, breaking ligaments in her back. Upon becoming conscious, the back of the house was replaced by bright light she could see through. She walked three steps through the light into an intensely bright meadow with mountains, a single large tree (possibly apple with red spots), and a stream. Various animals including deer, squirrel, and rabbit drank peacefully together. She sat with a rabbit in her lap, feeling complete peace and inner joy. She heard her friend calling her name from behind and knew she had to help her frightened friend. She told herself to breathe and returned. Despite severe injuries, she walked out on her own and tried to minimize the incident to protect her friend from trouble.
