Russell attempted suicide by overdose on January 6, 1987. He felt his breathing slowing and stopping, then was engulfed in light. Within this warm and inviting light, there was a completely black place he couldn't see through or break through - like a black door or barrier. The light made him feel like a kid in his grandmother's arms, the only safe place in the world. As he was losing everything, he heard a woman's voice scream "NO it is not yet his time!" He then awoke in an emergency room with the taste of charcoal in his mouth and was extremely angry about being brought back. The experience left him with the knowledge that something else is in charge of affairs and that everything is fine and will always be fine. He no longer fears death and has become obsessed with discovering the why and where of existence. He particularly wants to know if anyone else has encountered the "BLACKNESS" he saw.
