In late 2005, Rickie attempted suicide by taking 65 pills due to depression. After taking them with milk and saying a prayer, he experienced complete darkness followed by a pinhole of white light that expanded until his entire vision was white except the corners. The brilliant white light didn't hurt his eyes despite its intensity. He heard his name being chanted and saw three figures approaching with arms outstretched, gliding without feet or hands, with dark faces.
The figures stopped five feet away and communicated that everything would be okay, this wasn't his time, and he had a purpose in life (unspecified). He couldn't speak but felt calm and at peace. The light shrank and figures disappeared. He woke in a hospital with doctors and nurses cheering, learning he had died four times that night.
