Michael experienced a systemic infection with extremely high body temperature in 1958. During the fever crisis, he found himself in a peaceful place facing a very bright, non-painful light with several tall, thin beings whose features were indistinct. They moved slowly toward the light through what seemed like a bounded space or tunnel. One being took his hand and said "You can come with us," but Michael responded "No, I want my Mom." The being released his hand and he backed away from the light, awakening to find his mother hugging him and looking worried.
The experience was forgotten for decades until 2001 when hearing about another NDE triggered memories. Michael reports feeling peace, calmness, lightness and comfort during the experience. He describes seeing the light as very bright but not painful to look at, and feeling a sense of harmony with the universe. The beings appeared as three or five very tall thin people whose features were not discernible. Michael notes that since the experience he has never had a fear of death and tends to be very liberal, empathic, and easy-going. Electronic devices seem to malfunction around him frequently. Through Taijiquan practice and qigong, he has been able to attain similar mind/body or out-of-body states. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The experience contains several elements consistent with biblical accounts including encountering beings who could be interpreted as angels, seeing divine light, experiencing peace and joy, and being given a choice about continuing to the afterlife.
