In September 2002, Rica attempted suicide by taking ninety antidepressant tablets while caring for her dying father and dealing with marital problems. Rica was told she had been gone for at least twenty minutes before being resuscitated by paramedics. She spent three days in the hospital where brain scans showed no damage despite the extended time without oxygen.
