Paul experienced a ruptured gigantic cranial aneurysm while showering. He felt like lightning struck his head and fell into a coma in the shower. His wife found him with cold water running, which likely lowered his blood pressure and helped form a clot. After being transported to the hospital and receiving Last Rites, he experienced standing on the edge of a cliff overlooking an abyss filled with bottomless mist. He could feel, hear, and see only sadness. His right hand was raised, and when he looked, he saw he was holding the left hand of Jesus. He knew in his heart it was Him. Jesus didn't look at or speak to him but turned him away from the abyss and led him toward darkness. He then regained consciousness and requested a second priest, saying the first "didn't do a good enough job." Three months later, while watching a Discovery program about NDEs, he heard someone describe his exact experience and realized he had died and returned. He also experienced a miraculous healing from contagious spinal meningitis that disappeared without explanation after multiple spinal taps. Later in the hospital, he felt a finger poke his chest and experienced seeing and hearing every prayer said for him flowing through his body as visible words.
