At age two in 1945, Mrs. L fell into a creek and nearly drowned. Her mother found her floating face down in the water, not breathing, and initially thought she was dead. During the drowning, the young child experienced a bright cone-shaped light pulling her upward through a tunnel. At the top stood a woman dressed in white. Looking down, she could clearly see her own body floating face down in the water, wearing brown pants, white shoes, and an over-shirt. The woman at the top of the tunnel seemed to draw her back toward her, then faded into a cloud-like atmosphere. Time seemed suspended during the experience, which was characterized by complete peace and calm. The light was very bright, almost blue-white in color. Though only two years old, the memory remained vivid throughout her life. She never mentioned it until reading about NDEs in a magazine years later. When she questioned her mother about the incident, her mother confirmed finding her apparently dead in the water. The experience left her without fear of death due to the extreme peace and calm she associates with it, believing death will be a peaceful passing with much more beyond.
