Twelve-year-old Newlin D was being electrocuted while holding an extension cord/drop light and standing barefoot on a concrete garage floor in August 1972. As the electrical current coursed through his body, he left his physical form and floated above the scene, surrounded by a warm diffuse light. He could see everything clearly with a unique transparency - able to see through physical structures with soft, fuzzy edges. He observed his own body shaking and convulsing with electricity, eyes and mouth open but unable to speak. He matter-of-factly knew he would die unless something changed, feeling no fear. While floating, he went to where his father was working at the other end of the garage with his back turned, unaware of the emergency. After Newlin's presence, his father looked up, turned to see the electrocution, picked up a hammer and threw it across the room to knock the cord from Newlin's hand. The light then went out and the scene collapsed. He awakened in the family room where his father had carried him, feeling tingling all over, especially in his mouth due to braces. The experience included rapid passage through a tunnel toward a point of light before emerging to float above his body. He felt incredible peace, contentment, and warmth throughout, with a sense of unity with everything.
