Newie experienced a right-side cerebrovascular accident (stroke) on September 20, 2000. During the event, she found herself in a courtyard with extraordinarily vibrant green grass, bushes, and tree leaves. Over the horizon was white and gold light that was brilliant but soft. She knew she was in the presence of something sacred and experienced true awe for the first time without fear. There was an invisible barrier separating the courtyard from the light and landscape beyond, which she desperately tried to cross. A female voice told her "It's not your time yet." When she protested that she had a stroke with left-side paralysis and asked what better time there could be, she was still denied entry. She felt devastated being dragged back to her "ruined body" and experienced grief and fury for years afterward. The return felt against her will as she very much wanted to cross the barrier and return "Home." She describes ongoing reconciliation with remaining embodied while waiting for the "happy day" when she can return to that realm of light.
