Michael died from a suicide attempt and heard EMTs discussing that he was dead and considering charcoal use. He experienced leaving for another place with no transition memory. He found himself in complete darkness that seemed infinite in all directions. He had no physical sensations - no heat, cold, sound, light, touch, or pain - though felt his eyes were functioning. He experienced a place of great sorrow in the endless darkness. After what seemed forever, he was revived and saw the emergency room lights. Following this experience, he stopped all psychiatric medication and therapy, became symptom-free from his previous manic-depression diagnosis, and now tells family and friends he loves them daily.
