Marcello, age 21, attended a party where someone had spiked the punch with PCP (angel dust/elephant tranquilizer). After drinking four glasses, he became ill and left, experiencing severe distortion of perception. He was arrested and placed in a Berkeley jail cell where he stopped breathing and his heart slowed to cessation. He found himself floating upward, looking down at his body lying face up on the floor, rising until everything went black. He continued accelerating through darkness with thousands of flickering lights around him toward a dot of light that grew larger and brighter. He felt the most wonderful feeling of joy he has ever experienced. As he was about to pass through the brilliant light that bathed him, a beautiful feminine voice asked "Are you ready?" When he enthusiastically affirmed, the voice whispered "It's not your time yet!" He then found himself back on the floor with a guard performing CPR. The experience occurred before NDEs were widely documented, ruling out prior influence.
