Mani fell 30 feet from a ladder while working on February 3, 2002. He experienced a premonitory dream the night before showing three hooded spirits offering him a choice to stay or return. During the actual fall, he had an out-of-body experience where he observed himself from above with a powerful light presence. Witnesses at the scene, including a woman who performed CPR, stated he was dead. 911 calls reported him as deceased. Upon revival, the woman and her husband expressed shock that he was alive, saying "You were dead, oh my God! You were dead, God let you live!" He was rushed to the hospital with only a golf-ball sized bump on his head despite the severe fall.
Veridical observations included seeing himself on the ground from above during the OBE and hearing the woman crying over him before he returned to his body. The experience involved a void with three spirits, a mercury-like well showing a difficult future life, and an overwhelming light presence he interpreted as Christ who honored his request to return for his children.
