Linda experienced cardiac arrest in June 1996 with no previous heart disease. She was placed on a respirator but died during the procedure. She found herself walking down a dirt road surrounded by incredibly beautiful trees with the most wonderful greens she had ever seen. The light appeared to be dripping between the trees almost tangibly, and the air smelled clean and pure with a hint of sweetness. After walking about 100 feet, she came to a bank and walked onto the purest white crystalline substance that tingled her bare feet. She approached a clear body of water that gave her strength when she touched it. She saw her deceased maternal grandparents sitting on a log across the water, appearing happy and healthy, beckoning her to come. As she entered the water and reached the middle of the stream, she turned and looked directly into the eyes of Jesus. She saw His nail scars and felt overwhelming love that seemed to wrap around her. Jesus lifted His hands to stop her approach, wordlessly instructing her to return. She fought to get back to shore and was instantly back in her hospital bed. She later learned she had been declared dead and resuscitated. The experience transformed her relationship with Jesus into a constant, personal presence.
