Sixteen-year-old Lacey crashed her four-wheeler at 40mph, hitting head-first on pavement and cracking her left frontal bone. She floated up and away into a warm dark place heading toward emanating light, feeling awesome and realizing she was dying but wanting to continue. She saw herself lying in the road with people around her, observed and heard herself saying "Ow!" without feeling pain.
She heard EMTs discussing spinal injury and need to cut clothes. Horror at having clothes cut in public sucked her back into her body. She could willfully withdraw to the warm place but was repeatedly pulled back by a woman calling her name. The wire (noose) broke and she lay on closet floor for over an hour before friend found help.
