Jan H experienced an NDE after a suicide attempt by ingesting fifty pills on March 9, 2007, ending up in the intensive care unit at Erasmus Hospital in Rotterdam. During his experience, he encountered a large black vacuum-like hole that exuded great peacefulness and was about to swallow him. Before entering, he was presented with a choice of many films to watch - black films representing the bad things he had done in life and white films showing the good things.
Jan chose to watch only the white films, which exclusively featured his young son from birth to the present time. These scenes showed all the positive moments and memories involving his child. After viewing all the white films, they disappeared and the black hole stopped its vacuuming action. It became clear that he wasn't welcome in the hole or tunnel at that time. Following this realization, he regained consciousness in the hospital. Despite not being religious, the intense reality of the experience prompted deep reflection. Jan concluded that there is much more to creation than what we can perceive with our physical senses. The experience particularly highlighted the significance of his son in his life, as the fact that he only saw films about his son while standing before the tunnel was meaningful.
