From April to June 2001, Karen was on life support for nearly two months with pneumonia, sepsis, and ARDS. While in a coma, she could hear people in the room but couldn't respond, confirming her sister's actions of covering her when cold despite nurses objecting due to fever. She heard her out-of-state brother's voice and knew she must be seriously ill. Initially, she encountered a male being in darkness who persistently encouraged her to stop fighting and die, whom she recognized as evil trying to get her to give up. After praying for God's help, the evil being vanished. She then found herself in a brightly lit place like being held by the light itself, feeling part of the universe with complete ease. A figure approached with electrical energy around him whom she recognized as God. He communicated through presence, making her feel wonderful. Her mind opened with all answers to life flowing through rapidly - understanding everything was planned and controlled, that earthly life was like a dream or test while the light realm was real. She returned but struggled with not being allowed to stay or remember all the knowledge. She experienced post-NDE electrical effects with light bulbs.
--- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: Direct encounter with God in realm of light, spiritual warfare with evil entity overcome through prayer, receiving divine knowledge and understanding, transformation from experience, recognition of earthly life as temporary test, overwhelming peace and love in divine presence. Prayer immediately banished evil entity showing power of calling on God. Unbiblical elements: Some new age concepts like feeling "part of the universe" and the idea that earthly life might not be "real" could be interpreted as inconsistent with biblical teaching, though may simply reflect difficulty expressing ineffable experience.
