Dirk was in a car accident where 3 of 5 occupants died. He suffered a subdural hematoma requiring emergency surgery. While being transported through an underground hospital hallway, he floated above the stretcher observing his body under a sheet and the orderlies pushing the bed. He noticed specific details of the tiles and fluorescent light fixtures on the ceiling. Years later when working at the same hospital, he walked through the underground passage and recognized it from his OBE. He was in a coma for a week and semi-comatose for another week. Others noticed he changed afterward, as if guided by directions from above. His religious views broadened to see God/Allah/Buddha as different names for the same Supreme Being.
