In June 1996, David attempted suicide due to severe life problems including gambling addiction, pregnant wife leaving, and financial troubles. His body began convulsing, cold and numb. In his mind's eye, he saw a galaxy rotating clockwise. He flew toward the center with hands in front as stars passed faster like Star Trek. His perspective shifted - he couldn't tell if he or the galaxy was rotating.
His consciousness moved back to his body, viewing himself from the right side as if lying next to himself. His spirit began rising from his body, attaching just above the navel. When scared and not wanting to die, he saw future events he would miss pass quickly before his eyes. He cried to God asking to live. His spirit sank back into his body, attaching at the navel area. The galaxy vision reversed, rotating counterclockwise. He awoke hours later, vomited blue chemicals, lost vision in right eye temporarily, had deafening alarm in head, and no balance. After stomach pumping and intensive care, he no longer feared death and gained spiritual awareness. He learned his religion wasn't as powerful as living a spiritual experience. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: Spirit separating from and returning to body, crying out to God for mercy, seeing future events (limited life review), and spiritual transformation resulting in loss of death fear. Unbiblical elements: The galaxy/space imagery lacks biblical precedent and seems more science fiction influenced. The spirit attaching at the navel rather than biblical concepts of breath/spirit. The dismissal of religion in favor of personal spiritual experience contradicts biblical emphasis on faith community.
