Daniel was hospitalized with both lungs filling with blood (80% left, 60% right) from pulmonary embolism. Unable to lie down for fear of drowning in his blood, he heard doctors quietly tell his family he wouldn't make it and to make arrangements. At 2:30 AM, he felt all pain recede, became comfortable and warm, then went through a tunnel described as two horseshoes connected with bolts of light shooting from the ends.
Floating through the tunnel, he saw orbs of light with people's faces he didn't recognize, except for his Granny Wilson who died in the mid-1940s. As the bolts of light stopped, he found himself buried up to his neck with many others similarly buried. He could look left toward warmth and light, or right toward a black hole and cold. He heard a buzzing sound, then his grandfather's voice saying "Breathe Dan, just take a breath." He felt comfortable and woke up with every part of his body swollen. Since then, he feels "tuned-in" especially during his subsequent six pulmonary embolisms and eight deep-vein thrombosis episodes.
