In May 1985, Demi attempted suicide two days prior and was brought to Kaiser hospital emergency room when effects became severe - body cramping, paralysis-like symptoms, and her neck pulling sideways. Around 1:00 AM, after drinking water, she lost consciousness. She found herself above and behind the foot of her bed, watching medical staff on either side using defibrillation paddles on her body.
She felt no fear, only amazement at how "cool" it was watching her body bounce when shocked. She had no memory of hearing anything or seeing lights during the experience. She felt great - full of energy, no tiredness, no sadness, just happiness. She cannot explain the overwhelming positive feelings she experienced while observing the resuscitation efforts. She doesn't remember returning to her body, only waking up being wheeled to a private room. The next day, a housekeeper asked why someone so young was hooked up to a heart monitor, thinking she had a heart condition. Demi now believes there is something after death, though she doesn't know what exactly.
