During intense spiritual fasting and prayer, Damaska experienced blood vessels bursting in her head, followed by instant silence, numbness, and death. She immediately found herself outside her body, flying over a landscape of natural beauty - hills, valleys, green trees and shrubs. She was aware of her state and knew she was going somewhere. Suddenly she could see into her room where her sister, a seasoned missionary, was on her knees praying for her return, saying "Lord, you call her to be your prophet, your messenger. She can't go like this. Bring her back."
Damaska heard a voice say "it isn't your time, go back" and found herself in her room as a spirit on the ceiling, able to hear everything clearly while engulfed by love. She was torn between two worlds, trying to communicate with her sister who couldn't hear her. She told her sister she was happy where she was and didn't want to return, but her sister's desperate prayers interrupted her journey. After what seemed like eternity hovering on the ceiling, she was pushed back into her body and opened her eyes. Her sister gave her something to drink, after which she slipped into a four-day coma. The experience was later confirmed to be a stroke or brain hemorrhage, from which she was miraculously healed without surgery.
