During emergency surgery for a ruptured ectopic pregnancy in 1961, Kathaleen experienced a profound NDE. She had lost significant blood (1500cc removed from abdominal cavity) and had no detectable blood pressure, requiring immediate transfusion. During the crisis, she found herself embedded in pure light that was experienced as unconditional love - a love unlike anything she had known before, not dependent on another human being. She understood that being loved was an absolute state. She was given a choice whether to stay or return, and chose to come back because of her two-year-old son, not wanting her mother-in-law to raise him.
