Conner experienced a heart attack on December 23, 1998, causing his heart to stop beating. Medical staff had to use defibrillators on him four times before his heart restarted. During the cardiac arrest, he experienced passing out and then entering a realm of pure white light. He saw a figure standing in the distance, dressed completely in browns, positioned in the lower left corner of his vision.
Conner felt himself moving toward the figure by floating or willing movement, experiencing everything as very natural and matter-of-fact. The white light was brilliant and pure, with the sky appearing red like a war zone initially. He felt completely unafraid and knew he was supposed to be in this safe place, understanding he was dead or dying. The experience was brief as he was resuscitated relatively quickly. Upon return, he awoke to see the doctor approaching with defibrillators, experiencing intense chest pain like burning fire. The NDE left him with the certainty that all NDE accounts are real, not fabricated. Death no longer frightens him, and he views earthly problems as trivial compared to the better place awaiting after death.
