Four-year-old Benino had a severe allergic reaction to Tussifargan cough medicine while ill with the flu. His tongue swelled dramatically, blocking his airway completely since his nasal passages were also blocked from the flu. He lost consciousness and was later taken to the hospital where he remained unconscious for about ten minutes before vomiting restored his breathing.
During the experience, he found himself outside his body, rising in the air while watching his physical form on the bed. Everything then turned black and he entered a tunnel with brown, grey, and black mixed colors on the sides. He experienced no physical sensations - no sound, heat, hunger, weight, or emotions - only sight. He perceived weeks passing in the tunnel though only ten minutes elapsed. At the tunnel's end was a small light that grew larger. Outside the tunnel, he encountered a two-dimensional black silhouette figure that appeared like a comic strip character. This figure reached toward his left shoulder but before contact, he was pulled backward and returned through the tunnel to his body. The experience was forgotten until age thirteen when watching a documentary about NDEs triggered complete recall, causing him to faint from the emotional impact. He was traumatized for weeks afterward. Interestingly, as an adult atheist, he now interprets the experience as a culturally-influenced brain hallucination rather than a spiritual event, though he acknowledges its profound reality at the time. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The out-of-body experience and tunnel with light at the end align with many biblical and traditional accounts of the soul leaving the body at death.
