Ben J experienced two heart attacks in 2007. The first was in January when two stents were placed. In December 2007, he had another heart attack and died on the operating table. During this clinical death, he had an out-of-body experience where he watched medical staff remove his socks and pants. He saw his wife appear with black hair as she had when they first met, though she currently has gray hair. He then encountered an extraordinarily bright white light, the brightest he had ever seen. He passed through a tunnel and saw his deceased father's gray jacket laying in front of it. Medical staff shocked him back to life after being clinically dead for eight minutes.
He reported feeling incredible peace, joy, and a sense of unity with the universe. During the experience, he felt he understood everything about the universe, his past flashed before him, and he saw scenes from the world's future. He encountered deceased beings and heard a mystical voice. The experience was so profound that he advised everyone he would not want to be resuscitated next time, as he really wants to return to that place.
