Amber suffered severe heat exhaustion at a desert festival, becoming increasingly ill during the drive to Reno despite drinking water (unknowingly worsening her condition by depleting minerals). At the hospital, she blacked out repeatedly and at one point was unable to speak coherently when doctors tried to communicate. In a desperate attempt to maintain earthly attachment, she began unconsciously masturbating, which angered the nurse who kept stopping her. During the NDE, she walked down a huge yellow tunnel made of glass or light, peacefully going to her death. She realized she was no longer breathing, but instead of terror, experienced incredible bliss - this absence of breath was profoundly relieving and lessened her fear of death. She saw a shadowy yellow line and knew crossing it meant no return. A voice said "Death is just a change of mind," and she instantly knew she would live to raise her children (ages 2 and 11). She awakened feeling more normal though weak. The NDE was extraordinarily lucid compared to hours of confusion, more real than any dream. Medical staff were surprised by her quick recovery, which she attributes to the emotional and physical healing aspects of the NDE.
