Willane T experienced a seizure on July 10, 2000, during which her heart stopped, caused by an undiagnosed brain abscess. While trying to start her car outside a grocery store, her left leg went numb and the numbness spread through her body. Her heart began pounding, chest pain tightened until she couldn't breathe, and she felt her brain would explode. She heard a security guard say "There she goes" as her body fell to the ground.
During her cardiac arrest, Willane experienced being both a participant and observer of the event. She saw the ambulance arrive and watched them put her body in the back from the same vantage point as if standing by the car. As the ambulance pulled away, she began to dissolve and went off into energy fragments which no longer had thought. She describes this as complete non-being with no continuation of consciousness, no tunnel, no light, no deceased relatives, and no redeeming reason for returning. Willane observed her body being loaded into the ambulance from an external viewpoint while simultaneously experiencing dissolution into energy fragments without consciousness. She maintained awareness of the emergency response while her consciousness fragmented. She awoke at the hospital where the doctor accused her of faking a seizure for attention. Six days later she returned to emergency with cerebral meningitis and partial paralysis, requiring brain surgery and removal of most of her teeth. After three months in bed and lengthy rehabilitation, she has struggled with suicidal thoughts and finding purpose in her survival, feeling robbed of joy in existence. The experience convinced her there is no personal god or afterlife continuing with consciousness. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The out-of-body experience observing her own body aligns with biblical concepts of the soul's existence separate from the physical body. The complete darkness and void could represent Sheol or the state of separation from God described in scripture. The lack of judgment could indicate this was a threshold experience rather than final death. Unbiblical elements: The complete dissolution into unconscious energy fragments contradicts biblical teaching about the soul's continued existence after death (Luke 16:19-31, 2 Corinthians 5:8). The absence of any spiritual realm, beings, or consciousness opposes numerous biblical accounts of the afterlife. The conclusion that there is no personal God or conscious afterlife directly contradicts core biblical doctrine. The resulting nihilism and suicidal ideation suggest a spiritually harmful experience contrary to God's life-affirming nature.
