Virginia experienced clinical death on October 24, 1971, during childbirth after an allergic reaction to epidural medication that paralyzed her from the neck down. She went into shock, her blood pressure bottomed out, and she died. Leaving her body, she could hear nurses and doctor working on her while heading toward a window where cool October breeze was coming in. She knew if she reached that window, she would never return.
An angel-like being appeared and reminded her of her husband and son who would never see her again, and the daughter who would never know her mother (she didn't know she was having a girl). The profound love for her family acted like a rubber band that snapped her back into her body of pain. She had a choice but understood what her choice had to be. While out of body, she experienced no pain, just profound peace and love, knowing she was going to a place beyond mortal imagination. She woke in intensive care on full life support. As a retired nurse, she later shared her story with dying patients to ease their transition.
