Sammy O experienced ventricular fibrillation on November 4, 2003, while recovering from heart surgery where he had his aortic and mitral valves replaced. His potassium level had dropped dangerously low to 2.5, triggering the cardiac emergency. During the estimated 5-8 minutes before resuscitation, he experienced what he initially thought was a strange dream with an unusual circular format.
He found himself looking into a tunnel with a circular black border and a small pinpoint light in the center. Scenes from his youth were vividly portrayed, sometimes circularly around the small light in a continuous fashion. Being analytically minded, he spent most of the experience puzzling about the strange circular format rather than focusing on the life review content. He remained totally aware and conscious throughout, trying to analyze what he thought was an unusual dream. After considerable time, the tunnel suddenly collapsed inward and the light exploded toward him - this was when the code team shocked his heart. He awoke to find 20-25 code team members in his room and immediately realized what had happened. Due to the potassium deficiency, his heart continued beating abnormally after revival, causing him to slip in and out of consciousness until he was placed in a medically induced coma for 8-10 hours while the deficiency was corrected. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The life review showing scenes from the past aligns with biblical concepts of life accountability.
