At age unknown in 1962, JM experienced drowning at the beach while jumping waves with her family. She was caught in an undertow and as her lungs began to burst, she breathed in water. She experienced a bizarre hallucination of having gill slits in her throat and considered herself a mermaid before realizing she was drowning. After losing consciousness, she felt completely relaxed and experienced total love. She saw shadows of people on both sides who knew her but whom she didn't recognize, describing them as family. She heard beautiful music and moved through a tunnel toward a light she knew to be God. She felt warm and glad to be going when suddenly the light exploded and she awoke on the beach surrounded by people who had found her washed up. Everything was loud and bright and painful. She wanted to return to the ocean knowing God wouldn't let her drown, but her parents prevented this. She maintains no fear of water to this day.
